Martindale-Hubbell®

Martindale-Hubbell® is an independent lawyer rating service. The organization has been evaluating lawyers for more than 130 years. Countless lawyers, judges and clients have relied on the Martindale-Hubbell® legal directory as the most respected, authoritative and dependable resource for information about lawyers in our community and in the United States. The rating system evaluates lawyers and law firms based upon confidential surveys and questionnaires directed to attorneys and judges about the subject applicant. There are two primary areas to each Martindale-Hubbell® rating, including a legal ability rating and a general and professional ethical standards rating.

An AV® Rating reflects that the lawyer has reached the height of professional excellence in legal ability and general and professional ethical standards. An AV® Rating indicates that the lawyer is competent in both legal ability and ethical standards and has been recognized by this independent rating service for the highest level of professional ability and respect. There are in excess of 83,000 attorneys licensed to practice law in the state of Florida. Of those practicing in Florida, only 20% of these attorneys have AV® Ratings from Martindale-Hubbell®. American Board of Trial Advocates

Organized in 1957, the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA) is an organization with the primary purpose of maintaining the civil jury trial system, which is referred to as “Justice by the People.” Mr. Shomo was inducted into ABOTA in the year of 2010. ABOTA members are attorneys who have demonstrated civility, integrity and skill, who serve as a valuable examples for helping younger attorneys become better trial advocates. These attorneys are called to help educate the general public about the Seventh Amendment’s crucial role in society. The organization follows the belief of Thomas Jefferson, who placed the right to a jury of fellow citizens at highest value and greatest need for protection, even more so than the right to vote. ABOTA aims to help improve ethical and technical practice standards in the area of advocacy in order to ensure that justice is properly being served.
